Study of hyperfine interactions in neptunium chalcogenides: NpS3, NpSe3, Np2Se5, Np3S5 and Np3Se5 by neptunium 237 Moessbauer resonance

In this work are studied magnetic properties and hyperfine interactions of neptunium sulfides and selenides. The variation of magnetic susceptibility with temperature and Moessbauer resonance of Np237 are measured. Np2Se5 is evidenced for the first time and monocrystals of NpS3 are prepared. Thermal variations of magnetic susceptibility and Moessbauer resonance show a magnetic order at low temperature in NpS3 (45 K), NpSe3 (55 K), Np2Se5 (15 K), Np3S5 (13-17 K) and Np3Se5 (26 K). Charge of neptunium is given by isomer shifts of Moessbauer resonance spectra, in NpS3, NpSe3 and Np2Se5 neptunium is tetravalent, in Np3S5 and Np3Se5 charges III and IV are found in the ratio 2/1. Isomer shifts show also the influence of anion electro-affinity and coordinence on the electronic density of neptunium ions.
Abstract (French)
Ce travail concerne l'etude des proprietes magnetiques et interactions hyperfines de quelques chalcogenures simples de neptunium. On a ainsi mesure la variation de la susceptibilite magnetique avec la temperature, et la resonance Moessbauer de 237Np dans les chalcogenures. On a mis en evidence, le seleniure Np2Se5 et obtenu des monocristaux de NpS3. Les mesures des variations thermiques de la susceptibilite magnetique et de la resonance Moessbauer de 237Np ont montre la presence d'un ordre magnetique a basse temperature dans NpS3 (45 K), NpSe3 (55 K), Np2Se5 (15 K), Np3S5 (13-17 K), et Np3Se5 (26 K). Les deplacements isometriques (DI) des spectres de resonance Moessbauer ont permis de connaitre l'etat de charge formelle du neptunium dans les chalcogenures etudies: - neptunium tetravalent dans NpS3, NpSe3 et Np2Se5; - coexistence des etats de charges III et IV dans Np3S5 et Np3Se5 dans le rapport 2/1. La comparaison des differents DI montre l'influence sur la densite electronique au noyau de neptunium : - de l'electroaffinite de l'anion, - du degre de coordinence.Files
