The H-mode in ASDEX upgrade: Physics and operating regimes

  • 1. Association Euratom-Max-Planck-Institut fuer Plasmaphysik, Garching (Germany)

Description

The confinement properties of single null poloidal divertor plasmas were investigated at plasma currents of up to 1.2 MA and heating powers of up to 12 MW. A large window for steady state H-mode confinement could be exploited. Controlled neon impurity and controlled deuterium gas puffing allowed the heat load onto the divertor plates to be considerably reduced without deterioration of the good H-mode confinement and plasma bulk parameters. The power thresholds for the L-H and H-L transitions as well as the ELM regimes were determined for different heating powers and radiated power fractions. (author). 10 refs, 3 figs
