Application of secondary radiation to X-ray fluorescence logging for tin and antimony

Description

Experience in the application of secondary radiator to X-ray fluorescence logging for tin and antimony is described. The design of well loging probe is described. 241Am isotope is a primary radiation source and the secondary radiator is of holmium, characteristic K-radiation energy of which equals 47 keV. The lead shield provides the protection from the direct rediation of 241Am isotope with the activity up to 1.8x1010 Bq. NaI(Tl) spectrometric crystal (10x10) together with a FEhU-31 photomultiplier tube serve as a detector. Detector's energy resolution along the line of 22.3 keV (109Cd isotope) is 35%. It is shown that the application of secondary radiator marks the intervals containing less than 0.15% of antimony
