Description
In this brief report, we shall attempt to indicate the basic issues that are being encountered and to illustrate these perspectives by a few examples selected from current research. The unifying element in this discussion is, as you will see, the new light that is being shed on the interplay of independent particle and collective motion in nuclei. (orig.)
