Description

The current status of research in the field of elementary particle physics is reviewed. Properties of new particles that have been discovered in the recent years are described. The introduction of new quantum numbers such as strangeness, isospin, etc. to understand decay of the particles, the production and the discovery of the SU(3) group as a symmetry group of strong interactions and the Quark model are explained. Properties of the new particles, their decay modes, photoproduction of the psi(3.1) and psi(3.7) resonances, internal quantum numbers, etc. are dealt with. The Charm model, Paracharge model, Colour model, etc. which are used to understand the interactions and properties of these plethora of particles are mentioned. A short account of the future expectations is also included. (K.B.)
