Quantitative determination of bone mineral concentrations using quotient densitometry in patients under long-term anticonvulsant therapy

Description

The effect on bone mineral concentration of anticonvulsive long-term therapy was investigated in order to find out if there is a relation between the occurence and extent of osteomalacial lesions on the one hand and the type and time of application of anticonvulsants. The hydroxyl apatite content was determined by X-ray densitometry. The method is considered to be suitable for yearly skeletal monitoring of epilepticians treated with anticonvulsants. (orig./HP)

Abstract (German)

Es wird der Einfluss einer Langzeittherapie mit antiepileptischen Substanzen auf den Knochenmineralgehalt untersucht. Zur Klaerung, ob eine Beziehung zwischen der Haeufigkeit und dem Ausmass der osteomalazischen Veraenderungen einerseits und der Einnahmedauer und Art der antiepileptischen Substanz andererseits besteht. Der Hydroxylapatilgehalt wurde mittels Roentgen-Densitometrie bestimmt. Das Messverfahren scheint fuer die jaehrlichen Skelettkontrollen bei medikamentoes behandelten Epileptikern geeignet zu sein.
