Cononsolvency mechanism of polymer solution revealed by soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy

Description

There is a phenomenon called the co-nonsolvency effect, in which a polymer that is soluble in pure solvents such as water or methanol becomes insoluble in their mixed solvent. In this study, we investigated the mechanism of the co-nonsolvency effect by examining intermolecular interactions around the carbonyl groups of polymers, including hydrogen bonding between water and methanol, using soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy and computer simulations. 水やメタノールなどの純溶媒に可溶な高分子が, その混合溶媒では不溶となる, 共貧性溶媒効果という現象がある。本研究では, 軟X線吸収分光計測と計算機シミュレーションにより, 水とメタノールの水素結合を含む高分子のカルボニル基周りの分子間相互作用を調べることで, 共貧性溶媒効果のメカニズムを議論した。(著者)
