IR and NMR characterization of oil generated from some Hungarian oil shales at 773 K
Description
Oil shales, discovered at different locations in Transdanubia, Hungary, were studied using column chromatographic separation. The average paraffine carbon chain length and the ratio of aliphatic, alicyclic and aromatic carbon skeleton in the 70-80% hydrocarbon mixtures were determined, based on the infrared and NMR spectra of hexane, benzene, chloroform, aceton and methanol fractions. The organic substances in oil shales of different origin was found to be the same type, though in the older samples (from the mountain Mecsek) the paraffins ratio is lower and the aromatic ratio is higher than the respective ratios in the younger samples. The oxygen content shows an opposite trend. (A.L.)
