Estimation of the radiological consequences to the population of the city of Sofia in case of a serious hypothetical accident in the IRT-2000

  • 1. Bylgarska Akademiya na Naukite, Sofia (Bulgaria). Inst. za Yadrena Izsledvaniya i Yadrena Energetika

Description

A serious hypothetical accident of the research reactor IRT-2000 is postulated and the radionuclide inventory is determined. In case of conservative determination of fission products release from the molten fuel to the atmosphere, the radiological consequences to the population in a 20 km zone around the reactor are estimated. The probability for cancer resulting from the hypothetical accident is estimated. The results obtained indicate that the consequences would be insignificant and radiation doses - smaller than the maximum permissible limits adopted in Bulgaria. 4 refs., 5 figs. (author)
