Gamma-ray studies on the decay of 2.41-min 108Ag

Description

γ-ray singles and coincidence measurements following the decay of 2.41-min ¹⁰⁸Ag have been performed with Ge(Li) and NaI(Tl) detectors. A total of 13 γ rays have been assigned to ¹⁰⁸Ag decay and their energies and intensities have been measured accurately. From the coincidence measurements and energy-sum relationships 12 γ rays have been fitted into six excited states of ¹⁰⁸Pd with the following energies in keV and spins: 433.96, 2⁺; 931.09, 2⁺; 1052.82, 0⁺; 1314.22, 0⁺; 1441.16, 2⁺; and 1539.97, 1, 2. The first excited 2⁺ state of ¹⁰⁸Cd at 632.98 keV is also populated by the β decay of ¹⁰⁸Ag. The spins of the 1052.82- and 1314.22-keV levels were determined uniquely as 0 from the NaI(Tl)-Ge(Li) directional-correlation measurements. These data also yield a spin of 2 for the 1441.16-keV level and E2+≤2% M1 multipolarity for the 1007.22-keV transition. A discussion of the ¹⁰⁸Pd levels within the vibrational framework is presented.
