The influence of boron on the electrical properties of the ceramic superconductor YBa2Cu3O7-δ

Description

The influence of the partial substitution of yttrium by boron on the electrical and superconducting properties of YBa2Cu3O7-δ has been studied. The Y1-xBxBa2Cu3Oy samples with x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 and y ∼ 7 were prepared from oxides by the solid state reaction. The electric resistance R as a function of temperature and the superconducting transition temperature Tc and R as functions of boron concentration x are given and explained applying the concept of an order-disorder transition and strong electron localization. A monotonic decrease in Tc and a metal-semiconductor transition with increasing boron addition is observed
