Study on Air Contents in Klang Valley by using Acacia Leaves with Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA)

  • 1. Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Bangi, Kajang, Selangor (Malaysia)

Description

Klang Valley is one of the fastest growing areas with heavy and medium industry and has a high population density. Using biota sources as indicators, the Acacia tree, (Acacia auriculiformis) was selected in this study, as this plant is widely planted around industrial areas as an ornamental plant. The level of element concentration in the air was determined by measuring samples from Acacia tree leaves collected within a radius of 500 m from the industrial area. Elemental measurement sample in this study is using Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) technique. From the data obtained, each industrial area gives a different values of data element in the study area depending on the type of industry in the area. (author)
