Modifications of generic pressurized-water reactors to increase cycle efficiency

Description
Using moisture removal stages in a PHWR and PWR units reduces the moisture content in the steam path of turbine stages. Lesser moisture content results in increased thermal efficiency and generation of additional 12 - 30 MW power output for a 600 MW unit with the same reactor power and boiler steam parameters. Possible elimination of the reheater in the MSR additionally increases thermal efficiency by redirection of fresh steam from the MSR to HP turbine. The modification can be applied to PWR, PHWR and/or BWR units during planned replacement of LP and/or HP turbine rotors and for new construction. (author)
