Notwithstanding present political difficulties in the operation and spent fuel and waste management of nuclear power plants in Germany, German electricity utilities are convinced that nuclear power plants will be needed also in the future. The investment decision this requires must be taken from 1997 onward. From the utilities' point of view, a positive decision requires that a broad political acceptance of nuclear power be restored and a licensable and economically viable nuclear power plant concept be available. Abstract (German)

Ungeachtet aller gegenwaertigen politischen Schwierigkeiten beim Betrieb und bei der Entsorgung der Kernkraftwerke in Deutschland, gehen die deutschen Elektrizitaetsversorgungsunternehmen davon aus, dass auch in Zukunft Kernkraftwerke benoetigt werden. Die hierzu erforderlichen Investitionsentscheidungen muessen ab 1997 gefaellt werden. Voraussetzung fuer eine positive Entscheidung ist aus Sicht der Versorgungswirtschaft die Wiederherstellung einer breiten politischen Akzeptanz der Kernenergie sowie ein genehmigungsfaehiges und wirtschaftliches Kernkraftwerkskonzept.
