Description

Diagnostics form an integral part of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project and must ensure proper operation of the device for a range of different operating scenarios. First, a brief introduction of ITER will be given with the emphasis on the specific physical environment in which diagnostics have to operate. Then the paper will focus on those plasma parameters that can be measured by means of laser-aided plasma diagnostics. A brief description of a number of these systems is included. (author)
