Rotation of surface structures during horizontal fault displacements
Description
The siting of geologic repositories in seismically active regions may have to consider the potential for minor and/or secondary faults rupturing under certain structures. To understand the behavior of structures during horizontal faulting directly under structures, a simplified static analysis is carried out. Inertial effects during faulting are considered to be minimal and eliminated from further consideration. Faulting could occur at any location and orientation under a structure. The present paper considers only the case when the fault is parallel to and at the center line of the structure
