Description

A multipool reactor with an open water surface and with vessels separable by means of a watertight closure is described. The reactor vessels are constructed in accordance with Czechoslovak nuclear safety regulation - Act No. 28/1984 Coll. -and comply with applicable IAEA international regulations for nuclear facilities. Equally stringent requirements were stipulated for the other component - the UR-70 universal control rod with stepper drive - another item selected in the sense of the cited Act and nuclear facility regulation. The principal mission of the VR-1 reactor on the premises of its operating organization, the Faculty of Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering, Czech Technical University, Prague, is tuition. Some 75 to 80 % of the reactor time are planned for regular studies, postgraduate and other education. The remaining time will be devoted to research programmes. (Z.S.). 10 figs., 1 tab
