Description

The paper concerns the changes in the design of the Heysham II/Torness Fuelling Machines (FM), incorporated to meet specific new seismic parameters. A dynamic analysis of the FM seismic response was carried out using the response spectrum method, by means of the finite element structural analysis computer programme SAP IV. A description is given of the computer modelling and the analysis of the results. The work showed that the introduction of two pivoting joints into the machine design satisfied the demand of the seismic parameters. (UK)
