On the role of latent energy in martensitic γ -> α' transformation during deformation of irradiated Fe-Cr-Ni stainless steel

An attempt is made to study γ -> α' phase transition from the standpoint of energetics and to represent α'-phase accumulation in irradiated and nonirradiated stainless steel type 12Kh18N10T with the help of some function depending on latent energy. Experiments on deformation of the steel in austenized and neutron irradiated states were carried out in a calorimeter to determine stored energy. Latent energy is shown be considered as a critical parameter when describing α'-phase nucleation and growth. An analytical expression, is suggested for approximation of γ -> α' transition kinetic curve
