Radiative β-transition in 198Au radionuclide

  • 1. Cairo Univ. (Egypt). Dept. of Physics

Description

The Internal Bremsstrahlung (I.B.) spectrum associated with the first forbidden β-transition of 198Au is measured using a single-channel NaI(Tl) scintillation spectrometer. The experimental results for the I.B. probabilities are compared with the current Knipp and Uhlenbeck and by Bloch (KUB), Lewis and Ford, Nilsson, and Ford and Martin theories in the energy range from 550 keV to 1075 keV. A comparison with the probabilities calculated according to the Nilsson theory after applying the shape correction factor is made. The comparison shows a good agreement over the all energy range investigated. It is concluded that the shape corrected modified by Nilson KUB theory is quite satisfactory in explaining such I.B. processes of forbidden β-transitions. Confirmed is the previously reported conclusion that if the effects of Coulomb correction, degree of forbiddance and detour contribution are considered in a more refined manner than those of the aforementioned theories, a satisfactory agreement between the experiment and the theory, particularly at higher energy values, can be achieved. 3 figs., 2 tabs., 19 refs.
