High pressure studies on electrical and magnetic properties of Ce-monopnictides, and some other Ce and U compounds

Description
Electrical and magnetic properties of the dense Kondo compounds CeX (X = P, As, Sb and Bi), were investigated up to 8 GPa. A comprehensive pressure-temperature phase diagram is proposed for CeP. The Kondo temperature is found to decrease unexpectedly with pressure and a new magnetic phase appears at TH. The TH increases steeply, passes through a maximum and then decreases with pressure. Just after the TH disappears to zero, the dense Kondo to normal metal transition is found. Many other unusual results have been revealed in these compounds. One of the most puzzling phenomena is that a huge enhancement of the resistivity appears in CeSb near 30 K under pressures above 2 GPa. The other is that the area of the Fermi surfaces decreases rapidly with pressure in CeAs, while it increases normally in LaSb. Some other results of Ce and U compounds are also briefly reviewed.
