Description

A radio-frequency-quadrupole (RFQ) accelerator based calibration system has been installed in the L3 experiment. This system consists of a 30keV RF-driven volume H-ion source, a 1.85MeV RFQ accelerator, a N2 gas neutralizer, a 10m long beam pipe and a Li target. The 17.6MeV photons produced by radiative capture of 1.85MeV H0atom, 7Li(H,γ)8Be, provide a calibration source for 11000 crystals of the L3 BGO calorimeter. (orig.)
