10Be in polar glaciers: a tree ring analog for the entire Pleistocene
Description
The glacial ice holds a record of the past composition of the atmosphere and its trace constituents. One of the major impediments to the full utilization of this record is the lack of a technique for assigning a time scale to ice samples which are older than the 14C limit of about 25,000 years. The possible use of 10Be and 36Cl, both as chronometer species for dating polar ice and as general tracers of geophysical and astrophysical processes during the Pleistocene, is discussed
