A case of a hypodense meningioma

A case of a hypodense meningioma is presented. A 74-year-old woman was admitted to our nospital because of difficulty in calculation. A CT scan revealed a round, left frontal hypodense mass which was not enhanced after the infusion of the contrast material. Left carotid angiography demonstrated only an avascular mass lesion. Through left fronto-temporal craniotomy, the tumor was totally removed. A histological examination disclosed that the tumor was a meningothelial meningioma with xanthomatous change. Previously reported cases of hypodense meningioma are listed, and the clinicopathological features are discussed. (author)
