The suitability of different sources for the calibration of beta surface contamination monitors

Description

The suitability of two different types of source, the ion exchange resin and the anodised aluminium types, for the calibration of surface contamination detectors was investigated. The responses of a number of commonly used detectors to both types of source were observed and it was concluded that for most practical purposes of routine calibration and acceptance testing either type is suitable. Sources of greater uniformity may be required for the type testing of some contamination detectors. A carbon-14 polymer source was also investigated. (author)
