Discovery of intermediate bosons Z0 and Wsup(+-)
Description
The first official report on the experimental observation of intermediate bosons W+, W- and Z0 on the SPS accelerator in CERN was published in early 1983. These bosons were predicted by the unified theory of weak and electromagnetic interactions by S.I. Glashow, S. Weinberg and A. Salam 15 years ago. The discovery of bosons W+, W- and Z0 is another confirmation of this theory whose first success was the discovery of neutral currents in 1973. The principle is briefly described of the unified theory of weak and electromagnetic interactions and the role of bosons W+, W- and Z0. The theory predicts the existence of an other particle with great mass, the so-called Higgs scalar boson which has not yet been experimentally confirmed. (Ha)
