Proceedings of the WaterTech 2009 conference

Description

This conference provided a forum for industry leaders, researchers, and stakeholders to discuss the technical aspects of water and waste water management. Issues related to groundwater, water resources, and water quality were discussed as well as new research examining groundwater and surface water interactions. Watershed modelling, planning and management techniques were reviewed. New methods of sustainably managing water resources were presented. Industrial and municipal wastewater treatment processes were discussed. Recent technological innovations in nanotechnology applications for wastewater management were presented. Papers at the conference also examined regulatory issues related to oil sands and coalbed methane (CBM) projects and their impacts on groundwater resources. New treatment methods were outlined, and issues related to water conservation and re-use were reviewed. The conference was divided into 10 sessions: (1)hydrogeologists without borders; (2) regulatory; (3) lakes, wetlands, and natural areas; (4) municipal; (5) groundwater; (6) Alberta updates; (7) modelling and mapping; (8) waste water; (9) aquifers; and (10) miscellaneous.
