Zoe [The atomic pile which has been the first French reactor to diverge in December 1948]
Description
Illustrated by photos and drawings, this document briefly reports the history of Zoe, the atomic pile which has been the first French reactor to diverge in December 1948, three years after the creation of the CEA. Some technical aspects are indicated: fuelled with uranium oxide under the form of sintered pellets, moderated with heavy water, cooled by natural convection. The evolution of Zoe during its ten years of operation is evoked. The reasons for the choice of heavy water are outlined, as well as unknown aspects related to the use of uranium dioxide. Zoe missions during its operation are also indicated
