Thermodynamic properties of infinitely dilute solutions of UCl3 and UCl4 in the KCl-NaCl-MgCl2 (30:20:50) ternary eutectic

Description
The chemical potentials of UCl3 and UCl4 at infinite dilution in the KCl-NaCl-MgCl2 ternary eutectic were determined. Values of μsub(UCl3)sup(infinity) = -797000-322T J mol-1 and μsub(UCl4)sup(infinity) = -1070700-351T J mol-1 were obtained by taking into consideration the value μsub(AgCl)sup(infinity) = -70450-198.7T J mol-1 which was determined as an auxiliary result in this work. A comparison of the complexing properties of this melt with those of the LiCl-KCl and NaCl-KCl eutectics allowed an estimate to be made of the relative complexing power of the three solvents which was found to be LiCl-KCl < KCl-NaCl-MgCl2 < NaCl-KCl.
