Conceptual design and cost estimation of Vault storage facility for spent fuel

  • 1. Central Research Inst. of Electric Power Industry, Abiko, Chiba (Japan). Civil Engineering Lab.

Description

In order to propose an optimum storage method of spent fuel, studies on the technical and economical evaluation of various storage methods have been carried out. This report is one of the results of the study and deals with storage facility of Vault storage. The basic condition of this work conforms to 'Basic Condition for Spent Fuel Storage' prepared by Project Group of Spent Fuel Dry Storage at July 1984. This facility was designed for storage AFR (away from reactor). This system is followed, spent fuel assembly are sealed up in a canister and that canister is held in storage facility. This storage facility are constructed one acceptance facility, four storage facilities (750 MTU in one storage facility) and one waste management facility, being tied up respectively by away on the ground level.
