Gen-III: comparison of the first reactors built
Description
The first reactors of the 3. generation have been built. They are all water-cooled reactors with different power outputs but with the same expected operating life: 60 years. 5 reactors are presented in this article: the EPR (European Pressurized Reactor), the AP1000, the VVER, the Hualong-one and the APR1400. Their specific features in terms of power output, design, safety, and cycle lengths are given. (A.C.)
