BWR - in-core fuel management (ICFM)
Description
The Industrial Power Company Ltd (TVO) takes care of the fuel cycle design using the assistance from the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT). Design process starts 2.5 years before the loading of fuel by fixing the enrichment distribution of the reload fuel pins. Possible changes in fuel design must be planned in advance as TVO has done in changing from the standard 8x8 fuel to 9x9 and water-cross type fuels. In the fuel cycle duration design the fuel costs are balanced against the loss of production in the end of cycle which typically leads to a 3-week coastdown period and a decline of power to 90% of the nominal before shutdown for refuelling
