Description
This article reviews experimental evidence for and theoretical progess toward understanding D-state contributions to the wavefunctions of the light nuclei 3H, 3He, 4He, and 6Li. The most convincing and direct experimental evidence for the presence of a D-state component in 3He and 4He is the observation of finite tensor analyzing powers in the radiative capture reaction studies, although it may be difficult to extract quantitative information from these data. Currently the most quantitative information on the ratio of D-wave to S-wave asymptotic normalization constants, eta, is obtained by analytical continuation of tensor analyzing powers observed in nucleon transfer reactions. On the theoretical side, the calculation of the asymptotic parameters, eta and D2 (DWBA parameters) for the three-nucleon nuclei is the best it can be: converged three-body calculations based on the latest two-nucleon interactions supplemented in some cases by three-body forces
