Deformation and coercive force in SmCo5 alloy

Description

The paper deals with investigation into the change of coercive force and the structure of Sm-Co sintered alloys under compression as well as the powders of Co+34.3 mass.% Sm cast alloy during grinding. It is shown that the coercive force of SmCO5 sintered alloy, deformed by upsetting is lower by an order of magnitude, as compared to deformed fine particles, for equal X-ray line width. The absence of correlation between the coercive force and X-ray line width as the characteristic, reflecting the concentration of crystal structure defects, suggests nucleation as the limiting stage of remagnetization. Microscopic cracks were revealed in the structure of deformed sintered alloys. It was proposed that these cracks promote remagnetization of regions with distorted crystal structure. Nonmonotonous dependence of coercive force on grinding period for sintered alloys with high magnetic properties is caused by non-monotonous change in amount of magnetoactive defects in particles, including microscopic cracks
