On the stimulated recombination of atoms in the process of electron cooling of heavy charged particle beams

Description
A quantum-mechanical problem of a stimulated transition of a proton-electron system in the field of a strong electromagnetic wave from a continuous spectrum into the coupled state which features a finite lifetime is considered. Expressions for the intensity of the spontaneous radiation which accompanies the system transition from the intermediate coupled state to the fundamental one as well as for the rate of formation of neutral hydrogen atoms are derived. The probability of the atom formation is shown to rise substantially in the field of an external electromagnetic wave as compared to the spontaneous recombination
