Radiation Dosimetry

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound, Dhaka (Bangladesh)

Description

Radionuclide therapy involves the use of substantial amounts of radioactivity and must therefore be used with care. At extremely high doses, radioactivity can cause serious injury or even death. As in any form of treatment, the proper response of the patient requires the accurate measurement of the dose of the therapeutic agent. To establish the relationship between radiation dose and radiation effects necessitates accurate identification and quantification of the administered dose. It is possible to estimate the quantity of absorbed dose with some accuracy using the MIRD schema. (author) 1 fig., 4 tabs., 15 refs
