Investigation of relaxation transition influence on radiation-induced cationic graft polymerization of vinyl-n-butyl ether onto polyvinyl chloride

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Fizicheskoj Khimii

Description

The radiation-induced cationic graft polymerization of vinyl-n-butyl ether (VBE) onto polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in the temperature range -60 to +70 degC was investigated. The maximum grafting value was found in the region of the main relaxation transition temperature (Tsub(g)) of PVC swollen in monomer. Other transitions do not influence the grafting. The obtained results were explained by termination of growing cationic chains on the clusters of water which remains in the swollen PVC after drying. (author)
