Magnetic properties and magnetic reversal processes in quasi-binary compounds of R(Co, Ni)5 type

  • 1. AN SSSR, Sverdlovsk. Inst. Fiziki Metallov

Description

The main characteristics (magnetic moments, magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants, Curie points) and the nature of the processes of remagnetization are studied of single crystals of quasi-binary compounds of the type R(Co, Ni)5, where R corresponds to Y, La, Ce, and Gd. It is shown that in compounds with Y, La, and Ce, at 4.2 K a high coercive force due to inhibited displacement of the domain boundaries is observed for some values of X. No such effect is observed in compounds with Gd. The results obtained are explained from the standpoint of fixation of narrow domain boundaries on statistical inhomogeneities of the distribution of nickel atoms in the crystal lattice
