Multiple compartment digital subtraction arthrography

Multiple compartment digital subtraction wrist arthrography was used to evaluate 138 consecutive patients with wrist pain. By performing consecutive multiple compartment injections, there was an increase in the yield of abnormalities detected over single compartment injections alone: The radiocarpal arthrograms demonstrated 43 abnormalities, the midcarpal arthrograms, demonstrated 23 abnormalities, and the distal radioulnar arthrograms, demonstrated six triangular fibrocartilage complex tears not visualized with other compartment injections. In 60% of patients, the arthrographic abnormality corresponded to the region of pain. The arthrographic results correlated with surgical management in 47% of cases. With arthroscopy used as the gold standard, arthrography had an accuracy of 33%
