Developing more realistic test requirements for fire dampers
Description
Fire dampers are relatively simple devices that are fitted into ventilation ducts where they pass through fire divisions. However, for nuclear installations there are a number of important requirements to be considered. The primary function of the fire damper is to close in the event of a fire and thereby contain the fire and prevent the spread of smoke and gas through the ventilation system. A new draft United Kingdom standard for the testing of nuclear fire dampers stipulates that leakage characteristics should be measured while they are being exposed to fire. (Author)
