Corrosion properties of amorphous alloys on iron base

Description

Corrosion and electrochenmical behaviour of ACFeCrsub(y)Xsub(20) (where X=B, P+C, y=2-18 at.%) and FeX17 (where X=B, P+C, Si) prepared by the method of rapid quenching are investigated. Dependence between corrosion resistance of amorphous alloys (AA) and their chemical composition and conditions of their production is revealed. Phosphorus-bearing chromium AA have the highest corrosion resistance. Relation between passivation properties of AA and their electronic structure is disclosed: AA passivation ability grows with the increase of localization degree of valent electrons. The effect of the amorphizator on corrosion resistance of AA is conditioned by its influence on the localization of valent electrons around atoms, stoichiometry and chemical composition of the formed oxides. Anomalously high passivation properties of AA result from accumulation of chromium atoms on its surface
