Description

A finite half-life of T2ν1/2=2.6+0.9-0.5x1019yr (68% CL) for the two neutrino double beta decay of 116Cd to the ground state of 116Sn was found for the first time by means of the ELEGANTS V detector. Nuclear matrix elements for the two neutrino double beta decay was deduced as M2ν=(0.073±0.010)me-1 from the measured half life. A stringent lower limit on the half life of neutrinoless double beta decay of 116Cd to the ground state in 116Sn was obtained as T0ν1/2> 5.4x1021yr (68% CL). ((orig.))
