Failure detector for nuclear fuel rods
- 1. Nippon Atomic Industry Group Co. Ltd., Tokyo
Description
Purpose: To detect failures in spent fuel rods with ease and at high accuracy. Constitution: The radiation detector comprises a container for containing a fuel rod, a device for feeding gases into the container, a device for sucking gases in the container, a filter for absorbing fission products contained in the sucked gases and a detection means for detecting the ratio activity in the filter. In this detector, fission products in the fuel rod can be released forcively by placing the rod in a reduced pressure and, accordingly, failures in the fuel rod can be detected in a short time at high accuracy.
