Description
Actively cooled test sections with beryllium and graphite armour all withstand power densities between 15 and 20 MW/m2. Beryllium as structural material fails mechanically at low power densities. Monoblocks appear to be the most rigid design but frequently large variations in surface temperature are observed. All other test sections show a uniform surface temperature distribution. (orig.)
