Oscillation of cylindrical shell and inside liquid surface by overflow, especially on occurrence of traveling waves

  • 1. Iwate Univ., Morioka (Japan). Faculty of Engineering

Description

On the unstable vibration occurred in the test of the French fast breeder reactor 'Superphenix', thereafter, many researches have been carried out, and it was found that this phenomenon can be classified into two modes. One is sloshing mode in which the liquid surface motion in supply side and recovery side tanks dominated, and the other is hydrodynamic elastic vibration mode, that is the vibration of fluid-shell structure. The researches made so far on these subjects are reviewed. In this research, attention was paid to the traveling wave mode of sloshing, and in order to grasp the phenomena, the detailed experiment was carried out. First, three types of the traveling mode and the characteristics are described, and the effects that the diameter of a vessel, the stiffness and the length of a weir and a partition exerted to the traveling mode were examined. The test cylindrical weirs made of polyester film and the experimental setup, the experimental method, and the results of the traveling mode of sloshing type, three types of the traveling mode, that is, progressive wave, reverse wave and standing wave, the vibration characteristics of three types and the above mentioned various effects to the traveling mode are reported.
