Screens for beam monitoring

Description

A TV technique of measuring the screen optic radiation under exposure with the 70 GeV proton beam is described. Threshold sensitivities and light output of SiO2, BeO, ZnS, Al2O3xCr3+, Al2O3xTi3+ screens have been obtained for the beam denaisyt of 1017-1014 prot/cm2 and extraction duration of 10-6x0.4s. The technique of manufacturung the crystals from Al2O3 single crystals activated by Cr and Ti has been worked out. The optimal concentration of the activator for Al2O3xCr3+ has been determined. The values for optical forward and backward transition radiation have been measured for Al,Ni,Ti,Cu,C screens. 9 refs.; 1 fig.; 2 tabs
