The safeguards analysis applied to the RRP: The technical overview OSL

Rokkasho Safeguards Analytical Laboratory (OSL) has been constructed in the AH building of RRP, in the perspective of the application of effective safeguards to RRP with efficiency, to conduct a safeguards analysis to a sample taken in RRP for safeguards with acceptable level not only in timeliness but also in accuracy and precision. Nuclear Material Control Center (NMCC) as the designated organization for the state safeguards is to measure concentrations and isotopic ratios of U and Pu in transferred safeguards samples such as spent fuel solution and Pu nitrate solution with IAEA staff jointly at analysis rooms in OSL. For the measurements, analytical equipment such as HKED (Hybrid K-Edge Densitometer) and TIMS (Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometer) in OSL is to be applied. The analytical equipment has already been installed into OSL and is being adjusted. NMCC continues to confirm the performance of each with testing samples and holds Functional Testing (FT) and Acceptance Testing (AT) for the installed equipment with IAEA staff in OSL. NMCC is to advance preparations for analysis activities in OSL to achieve an acceptable level in measurements based on ITV-2000 (International Target Value 2000). (author)
