Safety of systems for the retention of wastes containing radionuclides (CNEN-Resolution--07/80)

This standard establishes the information and minimum requirements required by Brazilian CNEN for issuing the Certificate of Approval of the Safety Analysis Report related to a waste dam system containing radionuclides, with a view to ensuring levels of contribution of radioactivity to the environment as low as reasonably enforceable. Applies to the design, construction, operation and decommissioning of waste dam systems, whose reservoirs are intended for the disposal of tailings containing appreciable concentrations, at the discretion of CNEN, of long half-life radionuclides resulting from the operation of waste treatment plants minerals and other industries. CNEN's judgment may be made preliminarily, upon request from the representative accompanied by a detailed description of the characteristics and annual quantities of the wastes, specifying the nature and concentration of the radionuclides present
