On the size of a Polyakov surface

Description
In spherical topology, for fixed proper time cut-off and in one-loop approximation the average extension in the embedding space of a closed Polyakov surface grows logarithmically with the surface area. The meaning and possible generalizations of this result are discussed. (orig.)
