Description
Resonantly enhanced two-photon excitation of H2 in the vicinity of the ionization limit to the v+ = 0 and 1 states of H2+ was investigated. A rich spectrum consisting of several Rydberg series was observed and analyzed. Above the (v+=0, J+=0) threshold autoionization occurred. Also predissociation of Rydberg states has been observed. With two-colour resonantly enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) the ionization cross sections of electronically excited states were determined. The application of REMPI to detect H2 in vibrationally highly excited states and to measure velocity distributions of desorbing molecules is discussed. (author)
